Rebuilding an oil economy

Iraq holds some of the world's largest proven oil reserves, and the southern fields and export terminals around Basra underpin an energy sector that continually hires international contractors and their workforces. Running alongside crude production and refining is a long reconstruction effort — rebuilding housing, power, roads and public buildings after years of conflict — which sustains heavy demand for construction trades and site labour. That pairing of oil & gas with reconstruction has made Iraq a growing, if specialised, destination for Pakistani workers.

Demand concentrates where the projects and investment are: the oilfields and ports of the south, the capital's rebuilding programmes, and the comparatively settled Kurdistan Region in the north, which administers much of its own development and hiring. Falisha Manpower approaches this market deliberately and professionally, working only with established employers and EPC contractors that provide proper sponsorship, documented contracts and secure, managed accommodation for their crews.

Trades and professions in demand

Energy and industrial contracts drive most of our Iraqi placements. Employers look for welders and pipe fitters, riggers and scaffolders, mechanical fitters, instrument and electrical technicians and plant operators for oilfield, refinery and power work, together with the HSE and QA/QC staff who keep these sites compliant. Experienced foremen and supervisors able to run a crew are especially sought after.

Reconstruction and building work form a second stream: masons, steel fixers, shuttering carpenters, electricians, plumbers and HVAC technicians, backed by heavy-equipment operators and light- and heavy-vehicle drivers. Facilities and camp contracts also take cooks, cleaners, security guards and general labourers. Every candidate is assessed against the employer's specification and trade-tested in Pakistan before selection, so those we put forward can work to international project standards from the first shift.

Basra, Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region

Most energy roles sit in the south, around Basra and the giant oilfields and crude-export terminals that anchor the country's output. Baghdad and the central governorates absorb reconstruction, infrastructure and services work, while the Kurdistan Region — chiefly Erbil and Sulaymaniyah — offers a calmer operating environment and runs much of its own investment in construction, energy and hospitality.

Because entry and residency formalities differ between federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, we match each candidate to the correct route for the employer's location and coordinate sourcing, screening and documentation from our Rawalpindi head office and branch network.

The employer-sponsored work visa

Work in Iraq is employer-sponsored: the hiring company secures an entry visa and the approvals needed for the role, after which the worker completes residency and work-permit formalities on arrival. Procedures differ between the federal authorities and the Kurdistan Regional Government, so the sponsoring employer's paperwork determines the exact steps for each placement.

Our part is handled in Pakistan — we confirm the offer and contract, complete medical screening and Protector of Emigrants clearance, arrange document attestation, and book travel. We deal only with employers who provide genuine sponsorship and documented terms, which keeps each worker's status lawful and clear throughout the contract.

Pay, contracts and worker protection

We place candidates in Iraq only on written contracts that set out the job title, salary, working hours, leave and the accommodation, meals and transport the employer provides. On energy and EPC projects these terms are typically governed by the contractor's own employment policies and international site standards, which we review before any worker travels.

Given Iraq's operating environment, we pay particular attention to the security, housing and welfare arrangements an employer offers, and we brief every candidate honestly on conditions before departure. A worker who travels fully informed, on documented terms, is far better protected than one who does not.

For Pakistani candidates — what to expect

To take up work in Iraq you will normally need a valid passport, trade or technical certificates, experience letters and a clear medical; most technical roles include a trade test so the employer can confirm your skills before selection. Once you are selected, we arrange the sponsored visa, complete Protector of Emigrants clearance, and handle attestation and travel.

On arrival your employer finalises your residency and work permit and provides the accommodation, transport and welfare set out in your contract. We will always be straight with you about the role and the environment before you commit, and, consistent with BEOE and Protector of Emigrants rules, we never levy unlawful charges on candidates.

Spotlight: oil, gas and reconstruction

Iraq's economy runs on oil, and the fields, refineries and export terminals of the south are where demand for Pakistani manpower is strongest. International operators and their EPC contractors need a steady supply of certified welders, pipe fitters, riggers, scaffolders, fitters and instrument and electrical technicians for new packages, maintenance and turnarounds — exactly the trade-tested specialists we keep in our standing pool.

Reconstruction is the second pillar. As the country rebuilds housing, power networks, roads and public buildings, construction contractors need civil trades, operators and labour in volume, usually phased over the life of a project. We can mobilise individual specialists or complete crews to match that schedule.

Across both, our approach is deliberately measured: we partner with reputable employers, insist on proper sponsorship and documented terms, and keep the sponsoring company updated from selection through to arrival. It is a specialised corridor, and we treat it with the diligence it requires.
